Private Hatha Yoga
Asana Class

Namaste.
The light in me sees and honors the light in you.
Foundationally, yoga asks us to connect with our breath—so if you can breathe, you can do yoga. This holds true whether we are walking through busy days, attempting to turn our body into a pretzel, or sitting quietly with the drunken monkey in our mind that has been stung by a scorpion (as interpreted by, Swami Satchidananda).
Through the practice, we have the opportunity to help sober the monkey, learn to cradle it as it heals from its sting, and perhaps become a softer, less salty pretzel in the goings-on of our daily experience.
Yoga is made up of many parts; it is a culmination of philosophy, social awareness, self-awareness, self-restraint, breathwork practices, physical practices, study, meditation and so much more.
Hatha Yoga, which is a branch of Raja Yoga, is where I can meet you and share some pranayama (breathing techniques), asana (physical postures), and dharana (concentration) that leads to dhyana (meditation) with the goal of samadhi (bliss state)
During your private session, we will use pranayama to settle into our bodies and establish an intention. Guided by the in- and out-breaths, we will explore Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A), followed by standing, balancing, seated, inversion, and restful asanas before sitting for a brief, silent meditation.
You will hear some Sanskrit—an ancient, vibratory language—used to describe the asanas (poses) and techniques within this millennia-old practice.
Sometimes the floor feels far away or our limbs feel very short. Through the use of props—like blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets—I can show you different ways to bring the floor to you, cushion a tender joint, or explore variations that bring the intention of the pose to your unique body.
The word asana translates to "a comfortable seat in which to observe oneself." All too often, our ego says a pose should look one way or another. What we are actually reaching for is a feeling, that sweet spot between effort and ease in your body. You should always be able to breathe with ease, no matter what shape you are in.
One of my favorite aspects of asana practice is its simplicity: if there is room for a mat, I can do it anywhere, anytime.
After practice, you will have time to rehydrate with organic, cucumber-infused water. This time can be used to reflect in a journal or simply anchor yourself in the space between, allowing it to be a peaceful place to return to throughout your day.
This private class is wonderful for first-timers curious about yoga or anyone looking to dial in their action and alignment cues. It aims to demystify the studio experience and help you come home to yourself.
While yoga done mindfully is inherently safe for everyone, I am not trained and unable to occomadate special populations services like prenatal or childrens yoga. I highly recommend connecting with Holy Cow Yoga Center for classes in these specific areas and your own continued education.
I look forward to offering the foundational tools and understanding of yoga with you. And who knows? You just might attain samadhi!
